Engineering Manager

Responsible for engineering design, carrying out design reviews, preparation & development of company engineering standards and ensuring proper verification of design calculations and drawings.

Form the hub of the Engineering Group, manage and co-ordinate the engineering team.

Manage the interfaces between individual discipline engineers.

To provide technical advice and support to engineers under his/her management.

To provide training and mentoring as and when required.

Liaising with Senior Project Managers, Operations Manager, Customers and Suppliers.

Control of engineering man-hours.

Responsible for reduction of over-engineering.

Develop man-hour estimates for approval and submission to the Project.

Overseeing capital expenditure projects.

Ensure a safe, efficient plant design developed to comply with agreed project standards.

Provide day-to-day engineering discipline (process, electrical, controls, instruments, rotating equipment, mechanical and piping) support to the installations and functional groups.

Provide scoping support, solutions and delivery of small change requests.

Maintain up to date technical knowledge to ensure appropriate input into designs and most cost effective design techniques are utilised.

Continuous improvement on an ongoing basis

Preparation & checking of documents produced “in-house”.

Checking of documents produced by suppliers.

Custodian for “Process Design”, “Mechanical Design”, document templates etc.

Review & interpretation of specifications, standards & regulations.

Obtaining quotations from suppliers, reviewing quotations & placing purchase orders.

Participation in “Handover” & “Design Review” meetings.

Participation in P&ID and GA Reviews.

Participation in HAZOP / HAZID / SIL Reviews.

Attendance during inspection & testing.

Conceptual layout for all skid packages.

Site surveys.

Signing off PED.

Ownership of technical engineering discipline standards.

Creation of material selection charts, process design bases, technical design instructions and discipline work practices.

Maintain and develop standardisation of products and documentation with checklists, guidelines and examples:

  • Full definition of engineering work scopes
  • Technical delivery on projects
  • Schedule attainment
  • Status reporting
  • Technical interfacing with clients
  • Risk identification
  • Test functions
  • Safety requirement specifications

This role is based in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
