The Rumaila oil field is a super-giant oil field located near Basra, Southern Iraq, approximately 20 mile (32 km) from the Kuwaiti border. The field is estimated to contain some 65 billion barrels of initial oil in place.  Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO) is a consortium between the Iraqi state owned South Oil Company (SOC), BP and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). On behalf of BOC, ROO are custodians of the metering systems throughout Rumaila, and in line with the MoO Iraqi National Code for Measurement of Hydrocarbon Fluids, they commissioned the design and supply of a Mobile Calibration Facility for the routine proving of the 13 Metering Stations, to verify that system uncertainty is being maintained and a high degree of confidence is provided in the measured volumes. It also provides ROO with the ability to readily verify unaccountable shifts encountered during routine verification operations.

The Mobile Calibration Facility designed, engineered and supplied by OGS, consists of a fully packaged skid,  mounted onto a relatively standard 40 foot skeleton trailer. It is approximately 12m long x 3m wide x 4.2m high and weighs 29 tonnes. Articulated arms are located at the rear of the trailer and allow the Mobile Calibration Facility to connect with the site metering stations.
